Irene Sorozábal is a Spanish recorder player and singer based in Amsterdam. She performs a variety of music ranging from medieval to contemporary classical music as well as improvised and original music. She has performed in festivals like Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Amsterdam Fringe Festival, Zürcher Theater Spektakel, Oude Muziek Utrecht, OdeGant and Donau Festival. Irene sings in Groot Omroepkoor (Netherlands Radio Choir), Capella Amsterdam and Bachkoor Holland. As a recorder player, she performs with the renaissance consort The Royal Wind Music.

As a performer, singer and composer, Irene collaborates with visual artists, theatre makers and choreographers. She has composed music for works like Cow is a cow is a cow by Abhishek Thapar (SpringUtrecht 2021), Ordeal of Justice- The Epopee of Lucretia by Sonia Kazovsky  and in collaboration with Maya Felixbrodt and Moving Strings (Mondriaan Fonds 2022) and Kerogen Voices by Jimmy Grimma (Debatable Land(s) 2020).

Interdisciplinary performance is not only present in Irene ́s own productions but also in her practice as a curator: her initiative Encuentros –a multidisciplinary performance series for independent makers– has been funded by Balkonscènes Fonds Podium Kunsten (2021) and Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst (2022).

Irene studied in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She obtained a Bachelor degree with Erik Bosgraaf in 2018. She is currently studying a master in historical singing with Xenia Meijer at the same institution.
